Joshua B. Alper Joins Shapiro, Blasi, Wasserman & Hermann

Shapiro, Blasi, Wasserman & Hermann is pleased to announce that Joshua B. Alper has joined the firm as a partner.

Mr. Alper focuses his practice in the area of complex commercial litigation and comes to the firm with significant litigation experience in both state and federal courts, representing clients in a wide range of matters. His experience spans the spectrum of disputes that arise in the commercial litigation context, including complex breach of contract cases, malicious prosecution, fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, shareholder actions (both direct and derivative), non-compete matters, broker commission cases, class actions, misappropriation of trade secrets, tortious interference, writs of garnishment and replevin, securities litigation, as well as disputes under the Uniform Commercial Code.

He is highly experienced representing secured and unsecured creditors in bankruptcy court in adversary proceedings and contested matters under Chapters 7, 11, and 13 of the Bankruptcy Code. In addition, he was part of a trial team that obtained a jury verdict in excess of $66 million in damages and interest against one of the nation’s largest financial institutions.

Among the numerous designations Mr. Alper has earned is the distinction of being named to the Florida Super Lawyers “Rising Star” list, which recognizes the top 2.5% of lawyers in Florida under the age of 40. Furthermore, he was selected by the South Florida Legal Guide as a “Top Up and Comer” and by Attorney at Law Magazine as a “Rising Star,” where he was featured in an article about legal strategy and practical skills.

Mr. Alper graduated, with honors, from the University of Michigan and earned his law degree from Nova Southeastern University’s Shepard Broad College of Law, where he was a member of the Nova Law Review. He is admitted to practice in Florida and New York.

ADA Public Access Claims and Compliance: Shareholder Adam S. Chotiner oversees the firm’s ADA Public Access Claims and Compliance practice group.

This group’s practice is focused on litigation and compliance under Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (the “ADA”). Over the past 20+ years, there has been an explosion in the number of ADA Title III lawsuits being filed, particularly in Florida. Such ADA lawsuits often allege the existence of “physical barriers,” such as inaccessible restrooms or parking lots. Over the past few years the scope of ADA lawsuits has expanded to allegations that a business’ website is inaccessible to visually-impaired individuals or is otherwise non-compliant.

The firm’s ADA Public Access Claims and Compliance practice group also handles matters arising under the Fair Housing Act and similar state and local housing laws.
